West Berkshire is a dog warden short, and is trying to recruit a new one.
West Berkshire is on the hunt for a new dog warden after the recent resignation of its current one. The Public Protection Partnership, which oversees the service, has noted that the first quarter of the year has been particularly tough, partly due to limited kennelling options.
The dog warden team is responsible for verifying ownership, reuniting lost pets with their owners, and rehoming dogs, along with handling issues like dog fouling and dangerous dog complaints.
A recent freedom of information request revealed that from 2022 to 2023, the team found 132 dogs across West Berkshire, Wokingham, and Bracknell. Out of these, 56 were returned to their owners, 73 were rehomed from the pound, and 43 were not microchipped. Interestingly, lurchers topped the list of the most commonly found breeds.
