Kaspa's and Fat Twins, which took over the Granby Tavern at Cemeter Junction in East Reading in December 2021, have split the old pub into two. Kaspa's offers a variety of ice cream, waffles, shakes, and sweets, while Fat Twins serves up burgers, bagels, chicken sandwiches, fries, and sides.
Swiss Bubble Ltd, the franchisee for both, has received permission to stay open until midnight on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, with regular hours from 11am to 11pm on weekdays.
This extension was approved by Reading Borough Council after a consultation that saw no objections, concluding on August 31.
Previously, Swiss Bubble faced issues in the 'burger wars' with nearby Smash N Grab, who complained about an unauthorized outdoor pergola. However, a planning application for the pergola was approved in July 2023.
After Smash N Grab closed in January 2024, CozzY Bites took over, but it also lasted less than a year before Mallu Nest South Indian takeaway opened in May.
The Granby, known for being a gay-friendly pub, closed in 2013 and was occupied by Sprinkles Gelato from 2017 to 2020.
