Plans are moving forward to replace a garage with a new home in a village between Bracknell and Ascot.
Plans are underway to replace a garage with a new home in Chavey Down, located between Bracknell and Ascot.
The garage sits next to Firs Cottage on Long Hill Road, which is owned by Hansons Builders. They secured permission in October 2022 to build a two-bedroom home in its place.
The new dwelling will share access with Firs Cottage, which has been updated to include a gravel driveway with parking for both homes.
An agent from Mercer Planning stated, “The principle of intensifying residential use on this brownfield site is sustainable. The proposal respects local characteristics and will not negatively impact surrounding properties or local parking.”
However, Winkfield Parish Council’s planning committee expressed concerns, claiming the development is an overreach for the site and the parking setup is ‘impractical’.
Despite the scepticism, the project received the green light from Bracknell Forest Council’s planning department.
Firs Cottage was purchased for £500,000 in January 2021, and the house has since been renovated with a new white render and black window frames.
Recent images show the garage sealed off in preparation for demolition. Changes to the new home’s design were submitted in January, including adjustments to its height and the addition of a side dormer, which were approved on August 26.
Hansons Builders has also provided details on materials, landscaping, and sustainability features, ensuring compliance with requirements for solar panel installation.
