The re3 waste partnership, which manages rubbish and recycling in Reading, Wokingham, and Bracknell, has launched a survey to shape future services.
It's a joint initiative serving residents of Reading Borough, Wokingham Borough, and Bracknell Forest councils, operating waste recycling facilities at Island Road in Reading and Longshot Lane in Bracknell.
The partnership is developing a new waste management strategy for 2026-2031, aimed at reducing waste, improving recycling rates, and providing cost-effective services tailored to residents’ needs.
They're looking into making recycling centres more efficient and upgrading facilities to deal with new materials, including flexible plastics.
Currently, the partnership boasts a recycling rate of 53%, but last year’s info revealed that recyclable waste is often sent abroad to countries like China and India.
Alarmingly, up to 55% of what residents toss in general waste and 83% of non-recyclable waste at re3 Recycling Centres could actually be recycled.
The public consultation for the new strategy is now open, with councillors urging locals to share their views.
Cllr Karen Rowland stated, “This strategy will help complete our current contract effectively and shape future services to reflect our residents’ needs.”
Join the conversation by participating in the public consultation on Reading Council's Go Vocal website, open until Sunday, December 14.
