A new bakery and deli is set to be opened by an already successful business in a busy area of East Reading.
A new bakery and deli is set to open in East Reading, adding to the success of Cafe Yolk.
The team behind Cafe Yolk is launching the Donnington Deli, promising ‘amazing sandwiches’ and more in the coming weeks.
After successfully expanding with a takeaway bakery at Cemetery Junction in May, they are now taking over the site at Erleigh Road and Donnington Road, previously occupied by Donnington Cars.
Alexandra Mangat, who co-runs Cafe Yolk with her husband Sunny, acquired the building earlier this year.
On Instagram, they shared their excitement, stating: “Before it became Donnington Deli, this spot was home to Donnington Cars – a well-loved local garage that kept the community on the move.” They added, “Today, instead of the smell of oil and engines, you’re welcomed with fresh bread and amazing sandwiches, embodying the same community spirit.”
While videos show the deli’s fit-out progressing, the building isn’t ready for customers yet.
Another Instagram post highlighted their goal to honour the history of Donnington Cars by blending old and new in the deli’s design, using iconic racing green décor to celebrate the site’s heritage.
Mrs Mangat received approval to convert the site into a deli in June, with hopes to open Donnington Deli this Autumn. Outdoor dining may be an option, as suggested by an agent during the planning process.
