Controversial Woodland Development Decision Looms

A controversial plan at a woodland site near Bracknell that has been ‘deforested’ according to a neighbour is set to be decided.

A controversial woodland development near Bracknell is facing a decision that has sparked local outrage. Beaufort Park, nestled between Bracknell and Crowthorne, is being developed by two housebuilders: Taylor Wimpey, which has completed 68 homes, and The Hill Group, which has permission for 226 homes.

Residents of The Evergreens have been vocal about their concerns, claiming trees that were supposed to act as a buffer have been cut down, disrupting the tranquil woodland environment they moved for. One resident stated, “A significant reason why I moved here was the exclusive woodland setting. I was told by Taylor Wimpey that a tree buffer was unlikely to be approved.”

The Evergreens project was narrowly approved by Bracknell Forest Council in November 2021, while The Hill Group's plans have faced multiple rejections before getting the green light last March.

To address the complaints, The Hill Group has submitted an arboricultural method statement, promising to plant 400 new trees in the area. However, 14 out of 15 objections to the plan come from The Evergreens residents, with Taylor Wimpey also raising concerns about potential ripple effects on their properties.

Margaret McEvitt, the planning officer, has recommended approval of the new plans, asserting that they include a suitable tree buffer between the developments. The planning committee will make a decision on October 9.
