Aldi Drops Hungerford Store Plans Unexpectedly

Aldi has withdrawn its planning application for a 1,640m2 store at Herongate park on Charnham Street in Hungerford. The retailer has given no public reason for the move.

Tesco, which has a large store behind Hungerford High Street, submitted a formal objection. Hungerford Town Council supported the application but wanted a pedestrian crossing on Charnham Street between the BMW garage and the site, either a zebra or a puffin. The plot is an undeveloped part of a larger business park housing a label manufacturer, offices, a fitness centre, manufacturing services, apartments and other commercial outlets.
